Why she started rowing:
My son, Devin, started rowing in 8th grade. He had tried different sports, but when he found rowing that was it. He got up early every morning and rowed before school. He was stronger, more confident, and he was having lots of fun. The first regatta that we went to was so much fun, we were hooked to. After watching him for a few years, I decided to give it a try.
Why she rows now:
Rowing requires power and technical skill, both of which are a never ending challenge! I also love the camaraderie of the team and the stunning beauty of the lake.
Goals:
My goals are to keep improving, try more races, and support our new members.
Most unexpected thing she’s learned
How to get back in the boat! Ha, ha. Seriously, I would say how important being relaxed is for good rowing. It really is a mind/body sport.

What she does off the water:
I work as an outpatient Oncology RN. I love to hike with my dog Daisy, work in my gardens, and travel when I can.
Advice for new rowers:
Give it a try and be patient with yourself. Bring your sense of humor. There’s always something new to learn, no matter how long you have rowed. Relax, laugh, and enjoy the wildlife and the beauty of Megunticook lake.
Closing thoughts:
I had the opportunity to row with my son for a season, he even rowed in the same boat with me!
The highlight of that year was being able to row with him at The Head of the Charles. I don’t think anything will ever top that experience ❤️. I am very grateful to have this club so close to where I live. My son now rows at the University of Maine in Orono. A lot of the students that row up there did not have the opportunity to row in High School. So grab your kids, friends, family, and give it a try. We have an amazing team that is very supportive and lots of fun!
