March 2026: A Word From the Board President

We're entering that weird moment in Maine winter where the seasons are both agonizingly slow and blazing fast, at the same time. How strange to be snowshoeing on Saturday and planning for docks-in on Monday (and yes, docks are coming soon!). I find the best way to get through it is erg more. Really, erging is a good answer to most troubling questions. (Yes, I have gone native.) But soon all those 13k days will start paying off...

In addition to all the erging, we have added some serious outreach activities to our Megunticook Rowing plates this winter. Coach Bob and a slew of volunteers have been schlepping ergs to area middle schools to raise awareness of our sport and hopefully catch a few budding junior rowers before they fall victim to the lure of some lesser sport (kidding, kidding... or am I?). Thus far the visits have been amazing and we are hopeful we'll have a full roster of new rowers in the Club program to fill out our spring season along with the returning Varsity rowers.

Speaking of outreach, one of the things that I find truly amazing about this sport and our local Camden community is people's willingness to put up serious time and money to make what we are doing a success. Whether it's Meredith Currier designing and building our new barge, Sam Grinnell trailering ergs all over mid-coast Maine for youth events, Marnie Read making sponsorship and fundraising contacts (and bugging me until I finally write this note to you every month), or any of the other great folks who give so generously to help us keep this thing going, we have somehow assembled a really amazing group of people who enjoy working together to make the dream of a real rowing program on Lake Megunticook a reality. You can see all the hard work described in the paragraphs below, and there's more coming. I'm very, very lucky to be associated with this group and to have all of you helping us keep Megunticook Rowing alive and growing. Thank you!

Now, has anybody seen my seat pad?
