A Word from the Board President

Greetings all!

May was a busy, busy month for Megunticook Rowing. Here’s a brief run down….

Coaches Meredith Currier and Will Schaetzke led the girls and boys high school teams to competitions every weekend. Huge congrats to the kids who participated and the parents who literally got them there. The spring regatta season wrapped up with Megunticook Rowing hosting the 5th running of the Dirigo Sprints on Memorial Day weekend in Barrett’s Cove. With 200-plus athletes competing for the Sprints Trophy, Megunticook Rowing, Waynflete School, Neponset Rowing and Maine Coast Rowing Association all put in terrific efforts over the 1500 meter course. During the event we were comforted with the presence of the lake Warden, Justin Twitchell, providing safety oversight for all rowers. Our lake-side neighbor, Maxie (resident at the Start area) noted how much she enjoys our rowers taking advantage of our pristine lake waters. Always nice to hear from our neighbors on the lake.

Earlier competitions in May included a scrimmage vs. Neponset Rowing, the Mayors Cup in Malden, MA and the USRowing Youth Regionals in Lowell, MA. You can read all about them by clicking here.

On the side, Meredith Currier was also lining up a summer full of rowing and finalizing our summer coaches. Week #3 of summer rowing programs is now underway. I’m confident that there is a program that will fit your schedule. Click here to check out the programs and sign up today.

As we announced in our last newsletter, Megunticook Rowing is now a membership organization. Like our many options for rowing classes, there are many levels of membership and we are listening to the needs of our membership as to what works. Check out the levels here. If you have any questions about membership, shoot us an email at row@megunticookrowing.org.

Most recently our program enjoyed the completion of our successful annual fundraiser “Row the Coast“. Our athletes put in more ergometer miles than the whole coastal mileage of the State o’Maine! Huzzah. Many thanks to our many supporters!

In closing: these brief notes are made possible by the outstanding support we receive from our volunteer coaches Meredith and Will; our new website and the integration of iCrew management software lead by Hugh Brock and Kim Rowe; Marnie Read, who led the recent Row the Coast event; and Eric Buck, who is leading the permitting effort with the town to improve the bridge access to our Boat Forest.

Megunticook Rowing is committed to supporting rowing for all.

Wishing all a safe summer. Come Row With Us! See you on the water!
