Megunticook Rowing's Training Barge

Who's the new cool cat on the lake? Why it's Lynx, of course, Megunticook Rowing’s new catamaran training barge that will launch in the spring of 2026.

Ideal training vessels for introducing new rowers to the water, barges have been used in the sport for more than a century. They allow novice rowers to learn the details of the rowing stroke from a stable and durable platform before transferring those skills to a traditional racing shell as they progress.

Barges also give coaches the opportunity to offer individual attention through demonstration and direct feedback as they can freely walk from bow to stern along the central platform, working with each athlete.

For its initial launch, Lynx will be constructed from two Vespoli coxed fours linked together by a welded aluminum coaching platform, allowing a maximum of 8 rowers and 2 coxswains to train together with their coach at the helm. As our novice team grows and additional capacity is needed, the modular design will allow Lynx to double in size by expanding the coaching platform and replacing the fours with eights for a total of 16 crew and 2 cox seats.

Megunticook Rowing would like to thank all of you who gave so generously last year for helping us make Lynx possible!
