This month the training has paid off for 12 athletes who competed in the Cromwell Cup on Sunday July 21st. Megunticook Rowing had the opportunity to compete in the Cromwell Cup, which is hosted annually by the Riverside Boat Club on the Charles River. The course is 1000 meters. Junior Rowers must compete in time trials before moving to finals hosted in the afternoon. To no surprise almost all Megunticook athletes were able to advance to the finals!
We were thankful for our Competitive summer program that has been preparing athletes since June—also a big shout out to our summer Head Coach Tilghman Moyer for committing the time to work with the athletes.
The day’s events started with singles (1x). Jake Ryan Roux competed in the Men’s 1x U19 category and finished with a 3:58.1 in the time trials. Cabot Adams finished top of the pack at 2nd with a time of 3:43.4. In the finals Cabot took first place for the Men’s 1x U23 category! Through the morning doubles (2x), Adella Brainerd and Laura Riordan. competed in the Women’s 2x U19 and got second in their time trials, with 3:57.9. This brought them to the finals later in the day with a 4:05.5, two seconds behind 2nd place.
Getting into the afternoon, Masters began to hit the water. First event for Megunticook in the Masters category was Women’s Masters 2x, in which we had three boats! They missed a first place finish by .2 seconds! To end the day was the Mother / Child 2x event. From Megunticook we had Amy Mitchell and Devin Guptill, as well as Catherine Kemper and Daisy Beal. Devin and Amy finished 2nd in their flight with 4:11.9, and Catherine and Daisy 3rd in their fleet with 4:46.4. Megunticook had such a great day at this amazing event!
