Cabot Adams is a Maine native who grew up on the coast, where he first discovered his affinity for competition and the water. For ten years, he trained as a swimmer and captured three state championships, developing the discipline and endurance that would later carry over to rowing. When local pools closed in 2020, Cabot discovered rowing.
Less than three years after picking up an oar, Cabot attracted attention from Wesleyan University recruiters and enrolled in the Class of 2027 as a physics major. Though he wasn’t boated during the fall 2023 season, he earned a seat in the second varsity eight by spring 2024, going on to win the IRA Division III national championship that season and continuing to on to have an undated season in 2025. Coaches point to his work ethic, grit, and care for his teammates, along with his analytical approach, as key factors in his trajectory from novice to national champion in under five years.
Despite his rapid rise, Cabot remains grounded by the community that nurtured him. He understands firsthand how crucial local junior programs are for identifying future collegiate rowers—especially in Midcoast Maine. His goal is to build a pipeline that gives more Midcoast rowers the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. As someone who went from high school swimmer to varsity rower in just a few seasons, Cabot is determined to help the next generation follow a similar path.
“It’s a great art, is rowing. It’s the finest art there is. It’s a symphony of motion. And when you’re rowing well, why, it’s nearing perfection—and when you near perfection, you’re touching the Divine. It touches the you of yous, which is your soul.”
