The Megunticook Loonies made their presence known at their first competition of the season on April 12, racing indoors at Waynflete’s gym in Portland. The event featured 2,000-meter erg races for both boys’ and girls’ teams, along with a fast-paced mixed relay. Competing against Maine Coast Rowing Association and Waynflete, the Loonies faced tough competition and competed like champs. The camaraderie and sportsmanship were outstanding all around!

Race Highlights

Novice Boys rower Avery Gobin powered to a second-place finish, missing gold by just one second. In the Novice Girls division, Maggie Gill pulled strong for a solid 5th place finish.

In the Veteran Boys category, Jake Roux and Jack Heller battled, finishing 10th and 14th respectively, out of 18. The Veteran Girls also showed grit and determination, with Tucker Beynert (5th), Lucy Morgenstern (6th), Laura Riordan (8th), and Grace Doolen (13th) all turning in impressive performances.

During the mixed relay, Novice rowers Avery Gobin and Molly Gill joined forces with Veteran rowers Jake Roux and Lucy Morgenstern to capture an impressive 3rd place out of 9 teams. Way to go, team!
